German animated films strongly present in international competitions +++ AG Kurzfilm with German Films on virtual MIFA +++ Release of "New German Animations" viewing compilation

The Festival International du Film d'Animation in Annecy is one of the most important festivals for animated film worldwide. The associated film market MIFA is also one of the most important industry meetings of the international animation scene. Due to the pandemic, the 61st edition of the festival will take place in hybrid form, as will the associated film market.

From 14 to 19 June 2021, a total of eleven short German animated films can be seen in the various competition sections on location in Annecy as well as online. The films demonstrate the wide range of German short filmmaking in this field. Competing in Short Films in Competition this year are CONVERSATIONS WITH A WHALE by Samo (Anna Bergmann), HAVE A NICE DOG! by Jalal Maghout, PEOPLE IN MOTION by Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein, DER LOKFÜHRER by Zuniel Kim and Christian Wittmoser as well as THERE MUST BE SOME KIND OF WAYOUT OF HERE by Rainer Kohlberger (Off-Limits) and WOCHENBETT by Henriette Rietz (Perspectives).

The Graduation Short Films in Competition will feature EYES AND HORNS by Chaerin Im (DE/KR) and MULM by Carol Ratajczak and Tobias Trebeljahr. The VR Works - Competition includes BIOLUM by Abel Kohen (DE/FR), REPLACEMENTS by Jonathan Hagard (DE/ID/JP) and STRANDS OF MIND by Adrian Meyer.

At the MIFA Pitches, director Lucas Malbrunn will present his project MARGARETHE.

The traditional joint stand of AG Kurzfilm and German Films at the MIFA (MARCHÉ INTERNATIONAL DU FILM D'ANIMATION) will be open virtually from 14 to 18 June for interested trade visitors offering extensive information on the German animation scene.

There, for the 15th time, AG Kurzfilm, in cooperation with German Films, will present the current viewing compilation New German Animations, which can be watched for the first time this year at the MIFA Partner Screenings. For the first time, the fourteen short animated films included in the compilation will not be released on DVD in 2021, but can be viewed exclusively via the online preview of AG Kurzfilm, for which you can register here. The offer is aimed at festival representatives, curators and buyers. In the booklet you can find out more about the films included in the compilation.
