On January 14, 2023 at 5 p.m., the sixth edition of the program "Emerging Artists - Contemporary Experimental Films and Video Art from Germany" will have its premiere as part of the renowned 36th Stuttgart Film Winter. Presented by AG Kurzfilm and German Films, the program has been exclusively dedicated to young German experimental film for 10 years. Emerging Artists Vol. 6 will celebrate its international premiere on January 31, 2023 at the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand. Subsequently, the program can be booked by festivals, Goethe Institutes, galleries and other institutions.
With "Emerging Artists - Contemporary Experimental Films and Video Art from Germany" AG Kurzfilm and German Films present the sixth edition of their program with short, experimental works by young artists. The aim of the program is to draw attention to strongly artistic film and video art works.
Origin, home, memory and belonging are the central motifs of the 6th edition of the Emerging Artists program. Which events and memories shape people, which are reality, where does projection begin? Of the seven filmmakers represented in the current edition, four have their roots in other countries - Israel, Brazil, Russia and Kazakhstan. They bring their personal experiences to the table, and the lifeworlds of the different countries complement and intermingle, becoming visible in the films.
"For the sixth time, AG Kurzfilm's biennial program Emerging Artists proposes to consider film and video art as one whole - or at least as two sides of the same coin. Various forms of film emerge in seven short works: Film as body, as connection, as a space of memory," writes Marian Mayland, in her foreword to Emerging Artists Vol. 6.
Members of the jury that selected and curated the current program were Anne Gaschütz (co-director FILMFEST DRESDEN), Hanna Schneider (Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg), Giovanna Thiery (Stuttgarter Filmwinter), Björn Schmitt (DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, freelance curator) and Anne Turek (AG Kurzfilm).
On Saturday, January 14, 2023, the program will experience its premiere as part of the 36th Stuttgart Filmwinter, a festival that has been dedicated to exploring the boundaries between cinema and media art for over 30 years.
