In ES WAR EINMAL beobachtet die Kamera die Vorgänge am 1. Mai im Jahr 2014 in einem Ostberliner Park. Die vom Künstler The Wa aufgestellte Installation trägt zur Erheiterung und Verwunderung der Passanten bei und plötzlich verselbstständigt sich alles, ohne Anweisungen oder Fragen. Innerhalb weniger Stunden ist alles dann vorbei und nur ein kleiner Haufen Scherben weist auf Dagewesenes hin.
