13 years after his year of civil community service, Paul confronts his experiences as a 19-year-old in the city of Thiès, Senegal. As part of his community service, he flew to Senegal in 2010 with a German NGO, where he worked in surgery at a hospital. Poverty, corruption and the difficult everyday life there turned his hope for meaningful development aid into a personal nightmare. This included meetings with German aid workers on the ground.
Paul Drey was born 1989. After graduating from school he completed his German civil community service in Senegal. He then took European studies at Maastricht University. From 2017 to 2024 he studied directing/documentary film at the Film Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg.
