Monika is sitting in her darkened living room. 8 mm film images flicker on the screen in front of her. They show idyllic family scenes documented by her father over many years. As Monika begins to express what the smiling faces on the films are not saying, a portrait emerges of a family, in which the experiences of the parents during World War II cast a long shadow over both their lives and those of their daughters, who cope with this in very different ways.

Tom Salt
Tom Salt was born in New York and now lives near Lübeck. He works as a freelance photographer for international clients. He completed his first film THE LAST PAINTING as a part of the Raindance MA in Filmmaking. The film premiered at DOK Leipzig in 2019 and received an honorable mention.

Andrea Salt
After graduating with an MA in English, Andrea Salt lived in the UK for several years. Having moved back to Germany, she worked as a freelance translator and writer. In 2016 she received the Hamburg Literature Award. Since 2020 she has worked as a film editor and produced short documentary films.
