Germany at the turn of the millennium: A few years ago, Anja came to Germany from Russia with her mother and little brother. But the teenager refuses to speak German. Germany is only a stopover for her anyway; she would much rather go to America. While her mother rushes from cleaning job to cleaning job, she skips school and makes up gangster scenes with her little brother. Life is okay until she overhears a phone call from her mother.
