Sarajevo Film Festival 2019

In August 2019, the travel allowance bestowed by German Films allowed us to travel to Sarajevo to participate at the 2019 edition of Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We were there for the screening of 'Black Sun' as some of the team: Julia Tielke the cinematographer and co-scriptwriter, Enes Yurdaün the lead actor, Alara Hamamcıoğlu and Öykü Canlı the producers.

It was my first time in Sarajevo, both in the city and the festival. Founded during the civil war, Sarajevo Film Festival, I felt, rests on an energy of resistance. The city and its people, radiating with festivity, welcomed its visitors with joy. This glowing also illuminated the bullet traces on the surfaces of the buildings, accompanied us to the intricate history of the city.

The festival showcases the latest productions of the Balkans. The short section included many shorts that travelled to and received well in the major festivals. What was important was that the festival brought us into connection with some nice fellow filmmakers. And the warmth of the festival crew accompanied us throughout the whole festival.
