Mission Statement

The short film is an independent and innovative cinematic format. It plays an important role in the development of audiovisual media. The short film serves as a driving force for innovations in film aesthetics and makes societal as well as technological changes in film production and distribution visible at an early stage.

The work of AG Kurzfilm is guided by core values such as tolerance, diversity, artistic freedom, and mutual appreciation.

Profile

The German Short Film Association (abbreviated: AG Kurzfilm) represents the interests of everyone working in the field of short film. It has existed since 2002. The association sees itself both as a service center for the entire short film industry, as well as a point of contact for politics, the film industry, cinemas, and film festivals.

  • Film festivals
  • Film and art universities
  • Short film distributors
  • Institutions from the film and cinema sector 

Our mission:

  • Enhancing the visibility of short films nationally and internationally
  • Strengthening the position of short films within cinema culture, the film industry, public broadcasting, and the education system
  • Improving the legal and financial framework for the funding, production, screening, and distribution of short films
  • Strengthening knowledge exchange and networking within the short film community


Activities of AG Kurzfilm:


AG Kurzfilm’s film political activities include, among others:

  • Participation in the amendment process of the Film Funding Act and guidelines
  • Seat in the shareholders’ meeting of German Films
  • Seat on the board and presidium of the German Federal Film Board, in the German Media Council, and in various committees of the German Cultural Council
  • Membership in the networks Film + Democracy, Initiative Zukunft Kino + Film, Network Culture Dresden, and the Network of Central German Media Associations
