Independent short film awards play a key role in increasing the visibility and recognition of short films. The German Short Film Award is the most prestigious national award for short films in Germany. The Short Tiger Award, presented by the FFA, honors particularly short films suitable for theatrical release. The First Steps Award supports emerging filmmakers from German-speaking countries. At the European level, the European Film Award recognizes outstanding short film productions. Internationally, the Academy Award (Oscar) is also highly regarded and includes a category for short films.
