Molodist International Film Festival 2015
24.10.-1.11.2015
Report by Florencia Rovlich (#YA)
It was a very special day when we received the great news that our film was selected for Molodist Film Festival… It was not just another festival, Kiev has been from the beginning a very important city for us to have our film on the screen.
It was really important for us to be part of this festival and to hear this young people who recently had to deal with civil protests and revolution, an approach very close to the cinema we are doing.
When we edited our film about civil disobedience, we were following the demonstrations… Therefore, to present our film one year later and have the possibility to dialogue with Ukrainian audience and young people, was like a dream.
Thanks to AG Kurzfilm and German Films for giving us the great opportunity to attend this festival and be part of this unique experience.
Our first screening in the International Shortfilm Competition was very exciting. In spite of some technical problems, we had a very good time exchanging with the audience at the Q&A, with very interesting questions showing up and surprising us. The people received the film and exchanged through it in different and special ways.
Molodist FF has a very powerful and inclusive program, which promotes new filmmakers and allows new generations’ expression. I enjoyed a lot the choice of films and sections, like for example "sunny bunny", a very interesting section of the festival about LGTB films.
It was also wonderful to have time and space to exchange with other directors, and to all stay at the same hotel, a huge boat by the river, with a bar inside and a great meeting point with another filmmakers.
We also spend a great time at workshops, listening projects from young Ukrainian directors and having interesting discussions about why we are making films. All that finished with a short audiovisual production and it was very interesting to realize what we could do in such a short time, just a couple of hours, an amazing experience!
It was an obvious pleasure to walk around this huge city…
Discovering the neo-realist constructions all over, taking the metro through this fantastic symmetrical and soviet buildings, going around the monuments and have the chance to meet some young people telling us a lot of stories about their own experience at Maidan square during the protests.
Molodist IFF 2015 was for me a very important festival, it gives space for new ways of film making and for the expression of a new generation.
Altogether, it was a pleasure to have the possibility to be there.
For sure, a very recommendable festival and a great experience.
