adOHRi for transmitting audio descriptions

adOHRi was developed in 2021 with funding from the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism. The aim was to enable the flexible compilation of short film programs while also providing audio descriptions.

To this end, an app was developed that can play the audio descriptions of the films synchronously on users' mobile devices, as well as a transmitter that transmits the audio description directly from the film DCP to the app in real time. This is currently the only way to experience short films with audio description as part of an inclusive event at the cinema.

A pilot project (adOHRi – Kino, das sich hören lässt) is currently underway in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, which, with the support of MOIN Filmförderung, is equipping cinemas in this area with adOHRi transmitters and then supporting the cinemas in organizing accessible events.
