German short film productions are once again making a strong appearance at the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand (02.-10.02.2024): A total of 14 German short films are taking part in the competitions and other sections of the festival. Traditionally, the AG Kurzfilm - Bundesverband Deutscher Kurzfilm organizes a market screening with other current works and is present with a German stand at the film market (05.-08.02.2024) together with German Films and the Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg. For the 19th time, the premiere of the German-French cooperation program SHORT EXPORT - MADE IN GERMANY will take place as part of the festival under the title Soirée Allemande.

German productions in the festival program
From over 9,400 submissions from all over the world, five German entries were invited to take part in the festival's competitions. Four German (co-)productions will be screened in the International Competition: THE WAITING by Volker Schlecht, KAFANA NA BALKANU by Boris Gavrilović, LANGE NICHT GESEHEN by Kevin Biele and SAIGON KISS by Hồng Anh Nguyễn. A total of 66 films are competing in the International Competition. The German-Kenyan co-production MWANAMKE MAKUENI by Daria Belova and Valeri Aluskina will be screened in the LAB competition. Here, 24 films will be competing for the prizes.

A further nine German (co-)productions have been invited to take part in other sections of the film festival: LITTLE FAN by Sveta Yuferova, PRINCESS AUBERGINE by Dina Velikovskaya, SCRUBBY by Paul Vollet and TOWN HALL SQUARE by Christian Kaufmann will screen in the "Young Audience" programs. BAD LESBIAN by Irene Moray and TRACING ADDAI by Esther Niemeier will be screened in the "EuroVisions" section and KLEPTOMAMI by Pola Beck will be shown in the "Rebels" series. Two German works will be presented in the "Virtual Reality" section: EMPEREUR by Ilan J. Cohen and Marion Burger and FROM THE MAIN SQUARE by Pedro Harres.

Soirée Allemande / SHORT EXPORT - MADE IN GERMANY 2024
The traditional Soirée Allemande at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival once again marks the start of a new - now 19th - edition of the SHORT EXPORT - MADE IN GERMANY program. The new films in the program will be presented on February 5, 2024 at 6 pm.

The SHORT EXPORT - MADE IN GERMANY project is a long-standing Franco-German cooperation between the AG Kurzfilm - Bundesverband Deutscher Kurzfilm, German Films, the Goethe-Institut Lyon, the Festival International du Court Métrage Clermont-Ferrand and the Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg. Following the premiere, Goethe-Instituts worldwide and their partners can book SHORT EXPORT - MADE IN GERMANY until the end of 2025.

Selected from over 500 German submissions to the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the six German short films in this program provide an insight into the broad artistic, aesthetic and thematic diversity of current German short film creation and impressively explore the relationships of people to others, to themselves and to the environment - from the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica to the industrial history of Cologne lime. The directors Mykyta Gibalenko (I SEE THEM BLOOM), Franca Pape, Lea Sprenger (KASSIEREN), Xandra Popescu (SENTIMENTAL STORIES), Bianca Scali (IT'S JUST A WHOLE), Philipp Schaeffer, Jonathan Schaller (SILENT NIGHT) will be present at the Soirée Allemande on February 5.
