Under the Surface
The seven short documentaries in the 2026 Czech-German Short Film Tour focus on people who are holding their own in a world that is becoming ever faster and increasingly complex. Caught between the pressure to perform, societal expectations, and personal challenges, they seek guidance, a sense of belonging, and a place where they can be themselves.
The Czech films tell the stories of men who find stability in bodybuilding, an air traffic controller searching for her identity, and a young man holding out in war-torn Nikopol. The German films explore competition and ambition, hopes and uncertainties in the application process, as well as the limits of obedience and conformity, and trace a life now left behind.
Together, the films paint a multifaceted picture of vulnerability and resilience, memory and longing—and of what connects people even in uncertain times.
In the Czech Republic, FEINKOŠT will have its first screening on October 8, 2026, at the Bio Oko cinema. The German premiere of the program will be celebrated on October 30, 2026, during the German-Czech Cultural Days at the Programmkino Ost in Dresden.
Additional screenings in Germany and the Czech Republic are currently being planned.
