5 German short films will be featured at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival (May 12–23, 2026).
Five German short films will make their big debut at the Cannes Film Festival: GROWING STONES, FLYING PAPERS by Soraya Shamsi and Roozbeh Gezerseh has been invited to screen in the La Cinef section. DAUGHTERS OF THE LATE COLONEL by Elizabeth Hobbs will premiere at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes. Also screening in the Short Film Competition at the Semaine de la Critique are CITY OF OWLS by Zhenia Kazankina, NAFRON by Daood Alabdulaa, and “VATERLAND” OR A BULE NAMED YANTO by Berthold Wahjudi.
At the festival's film market, the Marché du Film, 30 brand-new short films will also be presented, which industry representatives can view via the AG Kurzfilm online catalog. 12 films from this selection, which have already screened successfully at international film festivals such as the Berlinale, in Clermont-Ferrand, Winterthur, Slamdance or Rotterdam, will also be available for online viewing under the title “Festival Highlights 2026” in the Short Film Corner (May 18-21, 2026), the festival platform for short film. They will remain accessible there for accredited users for one year. In addition, registered users can also view some of the films via the industry platform T-Port.
The Next Generation Short Tiger program, the cooperation project between German Films and the German Federal Film Board (FFA), in which AG Kurzfilm is a partner, can also be viewed online in the Short Film Corner. The AG Kurzfilm also offers young short film makers on location joint screenings of short films.
