PR 08.05.2024: Shorts in Cannes: Strong showing for German short film productions on the Côte d'Azur
German short films in the Quinzaine des Cinéastes and Sélection Immersive +++ Brand-new short films from the AG Kurzfilm online catalog in the Short Film Corner +++ German short film represented in the German pavilion of the Marché du Film +++ AG Kurzfilm offers networking opportunities for filmmakers on site
Three German short film (co-)productions are celebrating their big appearance at the Festival de Cannes (May 14-25, 2024): NUESTRA SOMBRA (world premiere) by Agustina Sánchez Gavier (Academy of Media Arts Cologne) and IMMACULATA (world premiere) by Kim Lêa Sakkal (filmfaust) have been invited to the Quinzaine des Cinéastes. The French-German VR short film EMPEROR by Marion Burger and Ilan J. Cohen (Atlas V, Reynard films, France Télévisions) will also be screened in the Sélection Immersive (non-competitive works).
"In recent years, German short films have shone at the Cannes Film Festival with pleasing regularity. The fact that this year a total of three short film productions have been selected for the official Quinzaine des Cinéastes section and the Sélection Immersive is further confirmation that filmmakers from Germany can compete on an international level," says Jana Cernik, managing director of AG Kurzfilm.
At the festival's film market, the Marché du Film, 30 brand-new short films will also be presented, which industry representatives can view via the AG Kurzfilm online catalog. 13 films from this selection, which have already screened successfully at international film festivals such as the Berlinale, Rotterdam or Clermont-Ferrand, will also be available for online viewing under the title "Festival Highlight 2024" in the Short Film Corner (May 19-22, 2024), the festival platform for short film. They will remain accessible to accredited users for one year. Registered users can also view some of the films via the industry platform T-Port.
The Next Generation Short Tiger program, the cooperation project between German Films and the German Federal Film Board (FFA), in which AG Kurzfilm is a partner, can also be viewed online in the Short Film Corner. The program will celebrate its international market premiere on 21 May 2024 at 18:00 at the Olympia 2 cinema in Cannes in the presence of the film teams. Together with German Films, the AG Kurzfilm also offers young short film makers on site various opportunities to deepen their specialist knowledge of marketing and networking strategies for their films. The specialist program is rounded off by a market tour, pitch training and a workshop with experts.
