PR 07.05.2025: Cannes Loves Shorts – German Short Film Productions in the Spotlight

German short films in La Cinef and Semaine de la Critique +++ Brand-new short films from AG Kurzfilm’s online catalog featured in the Short Film Corner +++ German short film represented at the German Pavilion of the Marché du Film +++ AG Kurzfilm offers networking opportunities for filmmakers on site

As part of the official selection of the Festival de Cannes (May 13–24, 2025), three German short film productions will enjoy prominent visibility: In La Cinef – the section that highlights outstanding student films from film schools around the world – MY GRANDMOTHER IS A SKYDIVER by Polina Piddubna (Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF) has been invited. Additionally, two German productions are competing in the short film competition of the prestigious emerging-talent section Semaine de la Critique: EROGENESIS by Xandra Popescu (DFFB, Angst Film, Hello Trouble) and CRITICAL CONDITION by Mila Zhluktenko (Michael Kalb Filmproduktion, Bayerischer Rundfunk, HFF Munich).

“We are delighted that German short film once again shines in the official program of the Festival de Cannes, giving filmmakers the chance to present themselves to the international industry,” said Jana Cernik, Managing Director of AG Kurzfilm.

Within the film market (Marché du Film), AG Kurzfilm is showcasing 29 current German short films, which industry professionals can view via AG Kurzfilm’s online catalog. Eight of these films, which have already screened successfully at international festivals such as Berlinale, Oberhausen, Visions du Réel, and Rotterdam, will also be presented in a curated selection titled Festival Highlight 2025 in the Short Film Corner (May 18–21, 2025) – the official short film platform of the film market in Cannes. These will be available for accredited users to stream online for one year. Some of the films will also be accessible via the industry platform T-Port.

The Next Generation Short Tiger – a collaboration between German Films and the German Federal Film Board (FFA), in partnership with AG Kurzfilm – will also be available online in the Short Film Corner. It will celebrate its international market premiere on May 20, 2025, at 6:15 PM in Cinema Olympia 2 in Cannes, accompanied by participating film teams. On site, AG Kurzfilm, together with German Films, supports emerging industry professionals with a diverse training program on marketing and international networking. The program is complemented by a guided market tour, pitch training, and a workshop with industry experts.
