German animation is strongly represented at Annecy
Eleven German (co-)productions have been selected for the program of the prestigious Festival International du Film d’Animation in Annecy (June 21–27, 2026). Once again, the German animation film scene is strongly represented at the world’s most important festival of its kind. At the same time, AG Kurzfilm - German Short Film Association, in collaboration with German Films, will present the latest New German Animations 2026 at the MIFA film market, creating opportunities for international exchange and networking within the industry.
German (Co-)Productions at the Festival
Out of more than 4,000 submissions, a total of eight German short films and three feature films were invited to various festival sections. In the “Short Films in Competition” section, DAUGHTERS OF THE LATE COLONEL (UK, DE, 2026) by Elizabeth Hobbs will be screened. CORE DUMP (DE, 2025) by Alona Rodeh was selected for the “Short Films in Competition – Off Limits” series. THE AMAZING KITSUVERSE (DE, 2025) by Leo Neumann is featured in the “Graduation Films” section. As part of “Young Audiences,” ON THE MATT OUTSIDE MY DOOR (DE, 2025) by Antje Heyn will be screened. In the “Midnight Shorts” line-up, CARLA AND HER LEGS (DE, 2026) by Christoph Büttner will be shown. Among the “Commissioned Films” are the ANIMA FESTIVAL TRAILER 2025 (DE, 2025) and the music video PAUL KALKBRENNER "CRONITIS BOY" (DE, 2025), both by Raman Djafari, as well as ECO BEAT (AT, DE, 2025) by Eva Bienert and Max Mörtl.
In the feature film category, the “Annecy Presents” selection includes MONSTER MIA (AT, ES, DE, 2026, 88 Minuten) by Verena Fels and THE LAST WHALE SINGER (DE, CZ, CA, 2025, 91 Minuten) by Reza Memari. The “Midnight Specials” section features SOUL SHIFT (DE, 2026, 104 Minuten) by Christian Franz Schmidt.
New German Animations & German Reception
From June 23 to 26, AG Kurzfilm and German Films will present the New German Animations 2026 at MIFA, which have recently been added to AG Kurzfilm’s online catalog. After registering, industry professionals can view the films using the integrated online preview feature.

In addition to the MIFA film market, the German Reception has traditionally been a key gathering place for the German and international animation industry. The event is hosted by AG Kurzfilm, AG Animationsfilm, animation germany, Animation Media Creators Region Stuttgart, Animation Production Days, FMX 2026, the Animation Institute of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, German Films, the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, as well as the Central German Media Fund and MFG Baden-Württemberg.
