Strong German Presence at Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival 2026
German short films will be strongly represented at the 2026 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (January 30 – February 7). As the world's most important meeting place for the international short film scene, the festival offers a central platform for artistic exchange, international visibility, and industry networking. A total of 18 German short films are represented in the festival's competitions and sections. In addition, a German project has been selected for the renowned Euro Connection co-production forum.
In addition to the official festival program, AG Kurzfilm – German Short Film Association is organizing a market screening of current German short films and, together with German Films and Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg, will be represented with a German stand at the film market (February 2–5, 2026). Another highlight is the 21st edition of the Soirée Allemande / SHORT EXPORT with a film program that once again presents the diversity of German short film to an international audience.
German (co-)productions in the festival program
Out of almost 9,000 submissions from around the world, four German entries were invited to compete in the festival's competitions.
Three German (co-)productions are represented in the International Competition, in which a total of 64 films are competing:
WITH TAPES AND TOAST IN THE CAR (DE, FR) von Kiana Naghshineh
RU NI SUO YUAN (CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG) (DE, USA) von Hao Zhou sowie
MOTHER OF A SON von Kevin Koch
The national (French) competition also features the co-production FAUX BIJOUX (FR, DE, IT) by Jessy Moussallem.
Another sign of the international networking of German short films is the selection of Johannes Krell's (Rosenpictures) project DREAM SCREEN for Euro Connection, a central pitching and networking platform for short film co-productions.
In addition, 14 other German (co-)productions were invited to various sections of the festival:

21. Soirée Allemande / SHORT EXPORT – MADE IN GERMANY 2026
The Soirée Allemande is celebrating its 21st edition in Clermont-Ferrand and will present the new edition of the SHORT EXPORT – MADE IN GERMANY program for the first time on February 2, 2026, at 6 p.m. The approximately 90-minute program with six current short films provides an impressive insight into the diversity and quality of German short films. Representatives from almost all of the films involved will be present at the program premiere.
Selected from over 510 German submissions to the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the six films tell sensitive and powerful stories about family, memory, and social responsibility. The focus is on intergenerational relationships, queer realities of life, and migrant experiences, as well as the examination of guilt, violence, and their consequences.
SHORT EXPORT – MADE IN GERMANY is a long-standing German-French cooperation between AG Kurzfilm, German Films, the Goethe-Institut Lyon, the Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg, and the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Under the title SHORT EXPORT, the program can be booked worldwide by Goethe-Instituts and their partners.
