AG Kurzfilm at the Annecy Film Market
New German Animations now available in the online catalog +++ 12 German (co-)productions in the official festival selection.
AG Kurzfilm (German Short Film Association) will be present at the MIFA (Marché International du Film d’Animation) from June 10 to 13, 2025, as part of the prestigious “Festival International du Film d'Animation” in Annecy – one of the world’s most important animation film festivals (June 8–14, 2025). Together with German Films, the German Short Film Association will provide information at booth D13 about current trends in the German animation scene and create diverse opportunities for international networking. Industry professionals will also gain access to the New German Animations, , which have been included in AG Kurzfilm’s 2025 online catalog. After prior registration, professionals can view the films using the integrated online preview feature.

German (Co-)Productions at the Festival
Out of more than 3,900 submissions, a total of nine German short films and three feature-length films have been selected for various sections of the festival—an impressive reflection of the diversity and creativity of contemporary animation art: In the “Short Films in Competition” section, 9 MILLION COLOURS (CZ, NO, DE, 2025) by Bára Anna and MY BROTHER, MY BROTHER by Abdelrahman Dnewar and Saad Dnewar will be screened. Ulu Braun’s AI-hybrid film GERHARD (DE, 2025) is part of the “Short Films in Competition – Off Limits” section.
In the “Short Films in Competition – Perspectives” section, ALL THIS DEATH (LB, DE, 2025) by Fadi Syriani will be presented. DETLEV (DE, 2024) by Ferdinand Ehrhardt, BLARGH (DE, 2025) by Sofija Zivkovic and, FLOATING (HR, DE, RS, 2025) by Jelena Milunovic will be shown in the “Graduation Films” section. The episode VOLLES NEST rom the animated series LENAS HOF (directed by Elena Walf, DE, 2025) will be screened as part of the “TV Films” category.
Among the “VR Works,” LICHTUNG (DE, 2025) by Aria Wolf and Janina Zlotos will be featured.
The “Feature Films Contrechamp” section includes BALENTES (IT, DE, 2024, 68 Min.) by Giovanni Columbu and MEMORY HOTEL (DE, FR, 2025, 100 Min.) by Heinrich Sabl. As part of the “Annecy Presents” series, STITCH HEAD (DE, LU, 2025, 90 Min.) by Steve Hudson will be screened.
Berlin-based illustrator, animator, and filmmaker Raman Djafari designed the vibrant and colorful poster for this year’s festival. Djafari, known internationally for their baroque, idiosyncratic, and consistently surprising music videos, has been featured at Annecy multiple times—including with ASHNIKKO – WORMS (DE, 2023) and the award-winning clip LUCKY CHOPS – TRAVELER (DE, 2020). As part of the “The Video Clip Geniuses” series, Raman Djafari will give a lecture on Monday, June 9..
During the festival, a German Reception will also take place, co-hosted by AG Kurzfilm, AG Animationsfilm, Animation Germany, Animation Media Creators Region Stuttgart (AMCRS), Animation Production Days (APDs), the Animationsinstitut of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, FMX – Film & Media Exchange, German Films, Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, MFG Baden-Württemberg, and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM).
